Life as a project

I had this thought earlier of forming your life in a similar way to how you would put together a web project. Form a mission. Choose the technologies you'd like to use to achieve your mission. Add some Easter eggs that don't directly contribute to the success of the mission, but still make the project more enjoyable. I really like the idea.

On a similar note, I recently thought about trying to actually put into words what it is that I believe. Perhaps through that, I could form a mission, and then choose a stack accordingly.

What do I believe?

I believe that we don't have enough information to answer all the questions of why we are here and whether any of this is for a larger purpose. Nevertheless, I believe that things matter to each of us and those things don't require justification. Without answers to the large existential questions, what is felt to matter is as far as we can go. This is not to say what is felt can't be changed, but it is necessarily absurd. And that's ok.

What matters to me personally is mitigating suffering. As suffering only exists in living beings, this means not using resources on bringing new life into this world. Those who don't exist don't need help. Those who do do. Resources are not infinite and those used in one direction are denied in the other. The math here is pretty simple.

I suppose my mission then is to mitigate suffering. I'm not sure there's much more to it.

What tools do I want to use to achieve this mission?

One advantage of this project is that since it's an incredibly broad mission, it can be achieved in an incredibly diverse number of ways. The difficulty is essentially the same, as it leaves the stack open to many different forms.

In addition to choosing tools which directly contribute to the outcomes of the mission, it's similarly important to use not bog the project down with a purely utilitarian design. This might work on a software project; it's less sustainable for a human project. Maintaining one's own health is paramount.

Altogether, tools should be utilized to satisfy the following in accordance with the mission.

Possible stacks

For fun, let's experiment with some possible stack ideas.

Stack #1:

Stack #2:

Stack #3:

You get the idea. The cool part about this is that tools can always be swapped out. The only real requirement for choosing good tools is making sure that they can be used to achieve the mission of the project. To that point, I guess I still need to figure out how I directly want to mitigate suffering in the world. I guess that's the big question for me to answer.
